    Privacy statement

    Biosecurity Queensland is collecting your personal information for the purpose of eradicating fire ants and electric ants, category 1 restricted matter under the Biosecurity Act 2014. This information will only be accessed by authorised employees within the department and will not be disclosed to any other parties unless authorised or required by law. 

    Qld legislated authority

    Under the Biosecurity Act 2014, authorised officers have the power to enter your property to conduct surveillance and treatment for fire ants or electric ants. Entry onto all properties is essential to the success of the eradication programs. Officers will be clearly identifiable and will not need to enter your house or buildings.

    Officers are authorised to enter your property to undertake treatment or surveillance without you being present. Please advise if there are issues with accessing your property and of any hazards that officers will need to be aware of.

    NSW legislated authority

    An emergency order and biosecurity emergency has been declared in relation to fire ants under the Biosecurity (Fire Ant) Emergency Order (No 3) 2023.

    Section 98 of the Biosecurity Act 2015 (NSW) provides that an authorised officer may enter a property (except a residential property) in the case of an emergency at any time.

    Section 99 of the Biosecurity Act 2015 (NSW) requires that an authorised officers obtain the consent of the occupier to enter a residential property to conduct surveillance and treatment for fire ants.

    Entry onto properties is essential to the success of the eradication program. Authorised officers will be clearly identifiable and will not need to enter your house or buildings.

Your personal information will be used for the purposes of assisting QDAF and DRNSW in surveillance and treatment of fire ants under the National Fire Ant Eradication Program and compliance with the Biosecurity (Fire Ant) Emergency Order (No 3) 2023. QDAF and DRNSW will not disclose information about you to any person except where required to fulfil the purpose outlined above for which you are providing the information, or where permitted by law.
